Student Services and Resources
The UHP Resource Center offers support for undergraduate students that are interested in pursuing a career in the sciences or health professions. UHP seeks to provide educational opportunities geared specifically towards underrepresented minority students (URM’S), in order to develop minority health care professionals, faculty, and researchers with the goals of eliminating health disparities and advancing health equity. To fulfill this effort, the Urban Health Program provides the following services:
- Comprehensive orientation to the health professions programs and to the UIC campus
- Academic Seminar Series
- Workshops and Skill Building Assessment
- Application and enrollment assistance
- Test Preparation
- One to One counseling, academic support, and mentoring
- Transcript evaluation, course selection, and career planning
- Networking opportunities among students, faculty, staff, community leaders, and health care professionals
- Connections to outside organizations and practicing health professionals that often lead to research opportunities, internships, field practicums/experiences, and mentoring relationships
